Description:
Here is a good quality antique English Edwardian oak and dark red oxblood leather revolving adjustable captain’s office tub arm chair, circa 1910, which is in good condition.
This style of chair was also known as a ‘tub chair’. The chair incorporates a curved, wraparound back, incorporating the arms, which are connected to scroll carved front supports. The chair features aged dark red oxblood upholstery that remains in very good condition and contains traditional filling, finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The seat is firm but comfortable. The underside of the seat is covered with a black cotton material. The chair sits on four splayed legs, terminating on brass & mug castors. The chair rotates 360 degrees, is height adjustable and features a reclining action. The chair can be raised or lowered by turning a ribbed metal screw on the underside of the chair, while the tension on the reclining action can be adjusted by turning the wheel at the front of the mechanism. The chair mechanism is in good working order and runs smoothly, having been cleaned and serviced. The chair is extremely comfortable to sit on.
The chair exhibits a mellow brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This Edwardian leather tub chair would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
The chair and mechanism are in good working condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the oak frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair retains aged full grain dark red oxblood leather style (Rexine) upholstery, with a sprung seat, finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The seat is firm but comfortable. The underside of the seat is covered with a black cotton. Despite having some age, the Rexine is in very good condition, with only minimal signs of wear, with no damage or holes etc. The chair frame incorporates the traditional brass studwork tacks to the padded seat perimeter. The mechanism has been cleaned and serviced. There is some play to the revolving mechanism but this is acceptable, and in line with the age of this piece of furniture. There are no breaks to the cast iron revolving and height adjusting mechanism. The chair frame features a mellow brown oak colour, having been cleaned and polished in our workshops. The chair incorporates brass & mug castors, which are also in good condition. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
