Description:
This is a fine quality antique English George V three-piece mahogany bergere cane suite, in a Georgian Chippendale design, circa 1930, with the cane and mahogany frame in excellent condition, which is being sold for re-upholstery. Whilst the upholstery is in good overall condition, there are signs of fading to the tops of the back cushions (specifically one armchair), therefore we are selling this suite for re-upholstery. The suite incorporates feather seat and back cushions, which makes this suite exceptionally comfortable to sit against.
Having a rectangular design to the frame of the suite, with a “stepped” top rail design to the frame, it comprises of a two-seat couch with two armchairs. The suite is constructed of top-quality solid mahogany; with elegant splayed scribe moulded arms, which terminates on ball and claw feet, decorated with acanthus leaf carvings, with a carved gadroon moulded frieze above. The suite features twin panel cane-work (which is a sign of quality – compared to single panel) to the sides of the arms and single and back panels. Importantly, the cane work is in excellent condition. There are no holes in the cane work (it is rare to see a bergere suite where the cane work is in excellent condition). The suite features a firm sprung base below, which makes the suite extremely comfortable. The suite seats up to five people comfortably. This is a very comfortable suite due to the deep design of the frame.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the conservatory or orangery. The suite would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
This suite features a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning they have received.

Condition Report:

Whilst the upholstery is in good overall condition, there are signs of fading to the tops of the back cushions (specifically one armchair), therefore we are selling this suite for re-upholstery. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the frame but nothing significant considering its age. The frame has been French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop. It therefore boasts a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received. The cane work is in excellent condition, with no damage or holes. It is rare to see Bergere suites, which have their cane work in perfect condition, with no holes. The frame is also solid with no breaks to the arms or back of the suite. The suite is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
