Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Georgian (George II) solid elm occasional lowboy side table, circa 1740, displaying a lovely mellow colour and grain configuration, in excellent condition. The table incorporates a twin-plank top, with a moulded edge and indented corners, above two working drawers, incorporating later period brass swan neck handles & shaped escutcheons. The pine-lined drawers are constructed with fine hand dovetail. The left-hand drawer retains its original working lock, with working key, while the right-hand drawer has a faux keyhole. The drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. Below the drawers is an elegant shaped frieze. The table stands on four tapering legs, which terminate on pad feet. The table retains the original top and backboard to the rear; the frame has been constructed in the traditional manner (peg joint) for the period. Ideal for use a side table in a hallway, or even a small writing desk. The desk is solid in joint and ready to use.
The table boasts a lovely rich elm colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway, or useful as a writing table. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
