The original lid features a moulded edge and retains its original iron strap hinges. The interior is clean, dry and practical and usable. The interior also retains its original floorboards, backboards and internal candle box. The trunk also retains its original steel working lock (with key). The sides incorporate steel carrying handles. The trunk features a moulded frieze and the whole stands on its original Georgian plinth base. The back of the trunk retains its original panels along with the original floor. Overall, this trunk boasts a lovely mellow, colour and patination.
This item would look great in a variety of rooms from the hallway, to the living room or bedroom as a TV stand, coffee table, ottoman or blanket box at the foot of the bed etc.
This beautiful piece boasts a mellow colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
The trunk is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the top, external sides and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The interior is clean, dry, and usable. The original steel hinges are in good working condition. The trunk retains its original lid, floor, legs, sides and back. The trunk also retains its original steel working lock (with key). The trunk retains its original colour and patination to the exterior. Evidence of historical wood-worm (which was common in elm) – this has been thoroughly treated. This not surprising considering that this item is over 200 years old. The trunk is solid in joint; it does not wobble on the floor and is ready to use.
