Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian linen press, constructed from figured mahogany, circa 1780, with an unusual double drawer configuration, in excellent condition. The linen press incorporates a protruding moulded cornice to the top, above two decorative figured mahogany panel doors. The left-hand door retains its original brass sliding latches, while the right-hand door retains its original working lever lock (with working key). The top section opens to reveal a spacious interior, including a wooden hanging rail. The internal hanging area offers generous hanging space for tall items, such as dresses or coats, as handing space continues into the base of the linen press (the top two drawers of the base section are false – they do not open). The base section comprises an unusual “double drawer” configuration, which is ideal for storing tall / large items, such as hats!
The base section comprises a two-over-two drawer configuration, with further plentiful storage space. The drawer linings are oak lined and hand-dovetailed, therefore constructed in the original manner. The drawer fronts are decorated with elegant flame mahogany fronts, cock-beaded detail, whilst retaining the original brass swan neck handles and circular backplates, key escutcheons and working locks (with key). The linen press is raised on its original bracket feet. This armoire also retains its original pine backboards. The linen press dismantles into two sections (top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase and into the bedroom.
This Georgian wardrobe boats a rich deep mahogany colour, having been cleaned and French polished by hand in our workshop, along with the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Georgian linen press is an excellent investment but is also very practical for storage and would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home.

Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian linen press, constructed from figured mahogany, circa 1780, with an unusual double drawer configuration, in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and specifically the sides, with old restoration patches near the waist, but nothing significant considering its age. The linen press has been cleaned and French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The interior has been fitted with a wooden hanging rail. The doors lock using the original brass working lever lock (with working key). The drawers retain their original brass swan neck handles and circular backplates, key escutcheons and working locks (with key). The top two draws in the base are “dummy” drawers to allow for taller hanging space in the cupboard above. The Georgian linen press is raised on its original bracket feet. The Georgian linen press retains its original backboards. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
