Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English late Georgian mahogany side table, circa 1820, displaying a lovely mellow colour, in good original condition. The table incorporates a twin-plank reed moulded edge, above three working drawers, comprising a wide central drawer flanked by two narrow drawers. The drawers feature later circular Prince of Wales feather brass handles & escutcheons, which were probably added during the Victorian period. The mahogany lined drawers are constructed with hand dovetail joints and the drawer fronts are finished fine with cock beading. The drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. The table stands on four ring-turned tapering legs. The table features the original top and backboard to the rear; the frame has been constructed in the traditional manner for that period. What makes this table unusual and more sought after, is the fact that it has three drawers, instead of the two standard drawers.
This item features a lovely mellow mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway, or useful as a writing table. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This table is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, drawer fronts and top, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The drawers are in good working order and close flush to the frame. The drawers feature old replacement brass handles and escutcheons (possibly replaced in the Victorian period). The table features the original top and backboard to the rear. There are no breaks to the frame or legs. The frame has been constructed in the traditional manner for that period. As the table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination. This table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
