Here is an example of a top quality antique English George III oak and mahogany inlaid chest of drawers, circa 1800, in good condition, with medullary rays and lovely mellow colour. Constructed with a two-piece oak plank top with mahogany cross banding and a thumb-moulded edge, the frame of the chest is inlaid with satinwood stringing and oak & satinwood motifs, with elegant reeded quarter columns to the front corners and panelled sides. Comprising of a two-over-three graduated drawer design, the drawer fronts incorporate quality mahogany cross-banding with later Victorian mahogany turned knobs. The drawers retain their original working lever locks (with working key), and the original brass key escutcheons. The medullary rays in the oak drawer fronts are superbly pronounced. The chest is constructed of solid oak with oak hand-dovetailed drawer linings; it retains its original backboards. The drawers are in good working order, they are clean inside and close flush to the frame. The chest stands on its original moulded ogee bracket feet.
The chest features a lovely rich golden brown oak colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This chest of drawers would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
