Description:
This is a fine quality antique English George / Regency mahogany inlaid armchair, with a newly upholstered seat, circa 1825, in excellent condition. The chair is constructed from solid mahogany and features a curved bar back, displaying satinwood string inlay border, incorporating a central marquetry inlay motif, in the shape of a conch shell. The curved bar back is supported by three vertical turned splats, flanked by reeded side supports, with a further reeded horizontal bar to the base of the back frame. Reeded splayed arms unite the back and seat frame, which is raised on turned supports. The chair boasts a stuff over seat, which has been newly upholstered in top quality taupe coloured structured cotton, with matching braiding. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can re-cover the seat in a fabric of your choice, for an additional £40. The seat has also been professionally reupholstered and re-webbed; the underside of the seat is finished with traditional hessian underside. The seat is firm but extremely comfortable to sit on. The chair stands on fine turned legs at the front and sabre legs to the rear.
The chair boasts a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
