Description:
This is a stunning quality pair of English antique Georgian Regency solid mahogany Trafalgar influenced dining chairs, constructed with a naval theme, circa 1810 – 1830, with newly upholstered seats, in excellent original condition. These sturdy chairs are designed with a flame mahogany bar back, decorated with down-swept scroll ears, with fine ring turned conical applied mouldings, with a sweeping ‘swag’ or lambrequin back rail. The chairs feature drop-in seats, which have been professionally upholstered in new top-quality light grey structured linen style upholstery, with and matching braiding, finished with traditional hessian backing to the underside. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice. If you would like the seats recovered, please contact us for a quote. The seat frame is raised on ring turned reeded legs to the front, with sabre legs to the rear.
This is an ideal set of chairs for use in either the dining room or office, for everyday use or formal dining. They would certainly grace any home or office and are a great investment, as they are extremely functional.
Provenance:
The chairs were constructed with a naval theme to commemorate Britain’s victory in the famous battle of Trafalgar in 1805 over the French. The Battle of Trafalgar was a naval engagement between the British Royal Navy and the combined fleets of the French and Spanish Navies during the War of the Third Coalition of the Napoleonic Wars. At this time, England was importing the best quality mahogany from its colonies.
Condition Report:
This is a stunning quality pair of English antique Georgian Regency solid mahogany Trafalgar influenced dining chairs, circa 1820, with newly upholstered seats, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chairs but nothing significant considering their age. The chairs frames have been cleaned, glued solid in joint and French polished by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. This is a true set of six dining chairs (i.e., not matched together from smaller sets of similar sets of chairs). The drop-in seats have been newly upholstered to a professional standard. The upholstery is therefore clean and free from wear and marks. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice. If you would like the seats recovered, please contact us for a quote.
