Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Regency / early Victorian papier mache ebonised and gilded drinks tray on stand, circa 1830, in good condition. The rectangular tray is decorated with a finely gilded scroll perimeter against a raised border, encompassing an ebonised central panel. The detail in the painted gilt work craftsmanship is second to none. The tray sits on a later Victorian / Edwardian folding stand, designed in the manner of the Regency period, with the splayed feet. Trays of this design usually incorporated later stands as originally, the trays were designed to be carried by Butlers, but were later adapted to incorporate stands, as homeowners found them more practical in the Victorian and Edwardian period. This is a particularly decorative tray as not only can it be used for practical purposes but also it can be folded away to display the ornamental scroll gilt work on the tray.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home or office and would be a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own such a lovely piece.
