Description:
This is a superb quality antique English Sheraton style flame mahogany and satinwood inlaid chest of drawers, constructed in the Edwardian period, circa 1900, in good original condition. Constructed with a rare single plank mahogany top with satinwood banding, string and ebony inlay and a thumb-moulded edge, the frame of the chest is inlaid with satinwood banding and ebony stringing, on a solid mahogany frame. Comprising a well-defined graduated drawer configuration, the drawer fronts incorporate satinwood cross banding, with satinwood and ebony string inlay, on top of stunning flame mahogany veneers. The drawers also boast their original brass circular handles, escutcheons and key escutcheons. The drawers also retain their original working lever locks (with working key). The chest is constructed of solid mahogany with mahogany hand-dovetailed drawer linings and original pine backboards. The drawers are in good working order, they are clean inside and close flush to the frame. The chest stands on its original moulded mahogany plinth. It is of extremely good quality and is made from the best materials.
The chest features a rich mahogany colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the drawer fronts. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
