Description:
This is a fine quality pair of “his” and “her” Georgian mahogany Chippendale dining / side chairs, circa 1780 – 1800, in the style of the Chippendale period, with newly upholstered seats, in excellent condition. The chairs are constructed of solid mahogany and feature a shaped top rail, with a finely executed pierced central fretwork back splat, flanked by vertical moulded rails. Incorporating a drop-in seat design, the seat frames are finely moulded. The seats have been newly upholstered in top quality embroidered structured silk & cotton upholstery in a pale gold colour, with a diamond, and new hessian undersides. Therefore, the seats are in excellent and clean condition, with no marks. The seats are well padded and firm but comfortable at the same time – you do not sink into the seat. The chairs feature cabriole legs to the front, with shell carving to the knees, and chamfered sabre legs to the rear. Chairs with chamfered legs denote quality. This is a true set of chairs; they have not been matched together from other sets of chairs.
The chairs are a ‘his & hers’ pair, meaning one chair is slightly bigger than the other.
The chairs boast a rich, dark mahogany colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
This pair of mahogany Chippendale dining / side chairs would look superb in a variety of rooms from the dining room, office or library. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely set of furniture.
