Description:
This is a fine quality English Queen Anne style exquisitely figured walnut tallboy linen press chest of drawers, constructed during the George V period by Waring & Gillow, circa 1930, in excellent original condition. The design is taken from the early 18th century. The tallboy consists of two sections; the top section comprising two doors, decorated in exquisite figured walnut veneer and brass escutcheon plate, open to reveal two ash linen slides. The doors retain the original working brass lock (with key) and bras locking bar. Carved floral detail against a punch-work background adorns the corners of the cornice. Below, are a two-over-three drawer configuration, all decorated with moulded fronts, constructed with dovetail joints in solid ash, retaining the original splayed brass drop handles and original working lever locks (with key). The top left drawer is stamped with the cabinetmakers’ name “Waring & Gillow” and includes a metal plate attached to the inside of the drawer. The tallboy boasts a stunning figured walnut veneers to the drawer fronts and solid walnut to the sides and frame. The tallboy has been cleaned and French polished in our workshop, to a professional standard. Therefore, the tallboy, boast a gorgeous colour and patination, with lovely grain configuration.
The top chest is marginally smaller than the base chest, which offers pleasing overall proportions to its design. The top section is secured to the base with four strong screws at the intersection between the two chests, where a further horizontal moulding separates the two chests. The item can be dismantled into two sections for easy access into the house or bedroom.
It is a decorative item with practical function and features lovely proportions. The whole piece is also designed with smaller proportions, so it is likely to fit in more rooms. The sides of the chests are also constructed from mahogany. The chest also features its original backboards and the whole of the chest stands on its original cabriole legs. The top and bottom are completely original. This is an ideal item for the bedroom or landing for storing clothes.

This is a fine quality English Queen Anne style exquisitely figured walnut tallboy linen press chest of drawers, constructed during the George V period by Waring & Gillow, circa 1930, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and inside of drawers but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The tallboy retains its original linen slides, brassware, handles and locks (with working key). The drawers close flush to the frame. The chest also stands on its original cabriole legs and retains its original backboards. The tallboy has been cleaned and French polished in our workshop, to a professional standard. Therefore, the tallboy, boast a gorgeous colour and patination, with lovely grain configuration. It is solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready to be used.
