Description:
This is a superb quality antique English Regency double scroll end mahogany leather settee couch, which has been newly upholstered to a professional standard in full grain chestnut brown leather, circa 1830, in excellent condition. The antique Regency couch has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain brown leather, designed with a deep-buttoned backrest and arms. The leather frame is studded in traditional metal studs, in keeping with the original design. The leather settee incorporates a newly webbed base, the original detachable horse hair fillings in the swab cushion and two bolster cushions at each end. The mahogany frame has also been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard.
The frame and legs are constructed from solid mahogany. At this time, England was importing the best quality mahogany from its colonies. The concave shaped deep-buttoned backrest is flanked by attractive up-swept scroll end arms; decorated with well carved acanthus leaves. The leather settee stands on its original ring turned legs, terminating on fine quality solid brass cup castors on all four legs, bordered by a moulded frieze, also decorated with block mouldings above the legs. The leather settee seats 3 – 4 persons.

The mahogany frame has also been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. Nominal old used marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame and legs but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There is no missing carving to the frame. The antique couch is solid with no breaks, splits or movements. It sits firm on the ground and does not wobble. The antique couch has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain brown leather. Therefore, the leather upholstery is new, free from wear, damage, rips etc. The leather frame is studded in traditional metal studs, in keeping with the original design. The antique Regency couch features a newly webbed base, the original detachable horse hair swab cushion fillings and two bolster cushions at each end. This leather sofa is solid in joint and ready to use.
