Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Regency rosewood and brass chiffonier bookcase, circa 1820, in good original condition. Supporting a raised inset panel back and shelf, which is decorated with a brass fretwork gallery and secured by elegant turned brass shelf supports, above a large flat breakfront base. The base consists of an open bookshelf comprising two shelves, flanked by cupboard doors decorated with pleated cream silk material and shaped brass grills. The doors retain their original brass lever locks with a working key. Inside each cupboard is a removable shelf. The chiffonier stands on a protruding block moulded plinth with the back of the chiffonier retaining its original pine backboards. This chiffonier would have most likely been used in a dining room or hallway to store the families’ best crockery, china and books. This chiffonier bookcase would have been commissioned for a wealthy individual or family.
It goes without saying that this chiffonier boasts stunning quality rosewood veneers; it is an example of the quality of rosewood timers available in its day. It is becoming extremely rare to find such quality of materials and craftsmanship in antique furniture as this piece. The item dismantles into two sections (top and base) for easy transport and access into the house.
As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:
This item is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no stains or watermarks to the top. There is no missing rosewood veneer either. The doors close flush to the frames, they are not warped and there are no splits to the doorframes. The doors also retain the original working locks (with key). The brass gallery is original and in good condition, along with the brass tuned shelf supports and brass door grills. There are nominal old use marks to the pleated cream silk fabric in the door panels. However, the fabric can be relined with any colour material of your choice, if you prefer to have different fabric. The plinth and backboards are also original. As the chiffonier boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This item is solid in joint and ready to be used.
