Description:
This is a fine quality set of 10 reproduction Georgian style ash & elm country Lancashire farmhouse spindle-back rush seated kitchen-dining chairs, circa 1970, in excellent original condition. Ideal for use in a commercial environment, as they are exceptionally strong and heavy chairs, which will take a lot of use. This a true set of chairs, which have not been matched from smaller sets, like some sets of chairs. The chairs incorporate a prominent shaped top rail, consisting of ‘ears’ on either side and secured on both sides by upright supports. Below, there are two banks of refined turned spindles, secured by two horizontal bowed rails. The drop-in seats have been hand rushed and they are in good condition. As they are “drop-in”, they can be removed from the chair, to be cleaned, which is also beneficial. The base of the chairs features lovely shaped legs and a bulbous shaped stretcher to the front. The front stretcher is heavy and turned – a good sign of quality. The chairs feature twin turned side stretchers and a rear stretcher; which ensures the chairs stand firm on the ground. All chairs are made from top quality ash and elm, and are firm and solid.
This design of chair was originally made in the Lancashire and Cheshire region of the North West of England, but was commonly known as a “Lancashire” or “Liverpool” chair. They were made for use in kitchens in simple country homes around the North West area during the time of the great mills in the Industrial Revolution.
These spindle back dining chairs exhibit a rich warm brown colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
These chairs would compliment any home, especially the kitchen or dining room. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
