Description:
This is a fine antique English George III oak four drawer low dresser base, originating from the county of Shropshire, with substantial form, boasting a stunning original colour, circa 1750, in excellent condition. The dresser incorporates a twin-plank oak moulded edge top, above three working drawers. The drawers feature good quality old replacement brass swan neck fretwork handles on pierced escutcheons. The left- and right-hand drawers retain the original working steel lever locks, with a key (the central drawer features a faux lock, having never had a lock originally). The original pine lined drawers are constructed with butt-joints; they close flush to the frame. Below the drawers is a decorative shaped apron. The dresser stands on cabriole legs to the front and block legs to the rear. The dresser has been constructed in the traditional method using joined construction.
The dresser features a superb rich mid brown oak colour. It has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Georgian dresser base would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional.
Condition Report:
This is a fine antique English George III oak four drawer low dresser base, originating from the county of Shropshire, with substantial form, boasting a stunning original colour, circa 1750, in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frame and top, including inside of drawers, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The top shows evidence of old use marks and a very old repair (see photos). The drawers are decorated with fine quality old replacement brass swan neck fretwork handles on shaped escutcheons. The left- and right-hand drawers feature the original working steel lever locks (and a key), with the central drawer having a faux lock. The dresser retains its original legs all of which are in good overall condition, but with expected wear to the feet tips. The dresser boasts a stunning original polish and patination, having been cleaned and wax-polished in our workshop. The dresser is well constructed, solid in joint with no loose movements and is ready to be used.
