Description:
Here is a fine quality English Georgian style burr walnut inlaid chest of drawers, with a folding top to convert into a writing desk, with small proportions, constructed during the late Edwardian period, circa 1910 – 1920, in good original condition. The hinged top is decorated with stunning burr walnut veneers, encased within a fine satinwood inlaid herringbone and cross-banded perimeter. The top folds over, with the support of the twin pull-out stops below, to convert into a small writing desk. The interior of the desk has been newly lined with traditional top-quality cotton green baize. Therefore, the baize is in excellent clean condition.
The chest incorporates four cushion-fronted graduating drawers, decorated with further satinwood herringbone inlay and Georgian style brass swan neck handles and open back plates. The drawers are constructed of solid oak and the drawer linings are dovetailed. The drawers retain the original working lever locks, with a working key. The drawers are in good working order; they are clean inside and close flush to the frame. The chest is decorated with reeded canted corners and boast decorative cross-banding to the sides. The chest stands on traditional Georgian style bracket feet.
The chest features a rich burr walnut colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This chest of drawers would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
