Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid birch revolving office armchair, with a newly upholstered green leather removable cushion, circa 1880, in excellent condition. The chair boasts a comfortable curved bar back, supported by a central pierced shaped back splat, united by wrap around arms, raised on shaped arm supports. The back and arms connect to a fine quality cane seat. A newly upholstered cushion in included, filled with traditional fillings, finished in full-grain green leather, with matching piping. The addition of this cushion makes the desk chair extremely comfortable. The chair frame has been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The chair sits on four splayed solid birch legs that terminate on replacement top-quality English made solid brass & porcelain replacement castors. The chair incorporates a revolving cast iron mechanism and it rotates 360 degrees. The seat does not recline and it is not height adjustable – many Victorian and early Edwardian desk chairs were constructed this way. The chair mechanism has been cleaned, restored and serviced and is in excellent working order. The chair frame is sturdy and the item is extremely comfortable to sit on, as it features a lovely shaped seat.
The armchair features a mellow colour. It has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This Victorian desk chair would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home.
