Summary Description:
Here is an exhibition quality antique English Victorian burr walnut three-piece bedroom suite, which includes a dressing table, wardrobe and chest of drawers, circa 1880, in excellent original condition. The suite is constructed from fabulous quality burr walnut, with a satinwood interior (to the wardrobe) and decorative moulding and beading to the outer frame. This suite boasts classic Victorian styling throughout; this is visible in the beaded and moulded design on all three pieces. This is possibly one the best quality Victorian bedroom suites we have come across in some time, boasting fabulous English craftsmanship, all handmade, which is in excellent original condition. It’s extremely rare to find suites of this quality.
Dressing Table:
The dressing table boasts a central rectangular adjustable mirror with an arched top, encased in a moulded frame, featuring a central carved floral pediment to the top. Stunning floral pierced fretwork carved arms support the mirror frame. The angle of the mirror can be adjusted by turning the brass knobs, which have steel threaded screw ends that sit into the mirror frame. The mirror supports rest upon the pedestals, which feature two small drawers on either side. The small drawer compartments and the pedestals themselves both boast burr walnut tops with moulded edges; the top and pedestals also display further bead moulding. The dressing table features 9 drawers, with four to each pedestal, and a single central drawer. All drawers are mahogany lined, hand dovetailed, and boast quarter beading and the original blue paper lining. The dressing table rests on the original bead moulded plinths. The item retains the original backboards to the base and mirror. The mirror and carved arm supports can be dismounted for easy storage and transportation.
Wardrobe:
The top section of the wardrobe supports a protruding moulded cornice, above twin, panelled doors, which boasts superb mirror matched veneers. The doors also feature the original turned knobs, while the right hand door retains its original working latch, lock and key. Either side of the door, the wardrobe frame exhibits a moulded frame. Below, the wardrobe rests on an exquisite bead moulded plinth. Internally, the wardrobe boasts a satinwood interior incorporating three pullout trays, above an open compartment, with four satinwood drawers below. The drawers and pullout trays both boast satinwood lining and hand dovetail construction. The drawers also boast the original blue paper lining, as well as the original brass handles and the bottom two drawers incorporate original working locks, with working key. To the right-hand side of the interior, there is a generous hanging space, including a single hanging rack and a total of 6 hooks. The wardrobe is raised on its original bead moulded plinth. This item also features the original backboards. The cornice and plinth can be removed to allow easier access into the bedroom.
Chest of Drawers:
The chest has been constructed with two small drawers above three larger graduating drawers. The chest benefits from a stunning solid top with a beaded moulded edge. The drawers are constructed with moulded fronts; mahogany drawer linings and hand dovetail joints. The drawers also retain the original blue paper lining, which is in very good condition, as well as their original shaped walnut handles. The chest benefits from an attractive moulded frame, with rounded corners and solid construction. The sides of the chest boast the original decorative walnut veneers, along with the original backboards. The chest terminates on an elegant bead moulded protruding plinth.
The suite boasts the original polish and patination; therefore it has a rich brown burr walnut colour. As it retains the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This suite would certainly grace any bedroom where you are looking to achieve the decadence from Victorian period. It would certainly grace any home, in either a traditional or contemporary setting; the suite is a great investment as its extremely functional and stunning quality.

Condition Report:
This bedroom suite is in excellent original condition. It’s extremely rare to find quality Victorian bedroom suites that are of such high exhibition quality. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers all close flush within their frames. The doors do not have any splits in them; they all too close flush to the frame and are not warped. The doors retain their original working lever locks (with key). The suite retains its original wooden handles. The mirror, which is the original mirror, is in very good condition, with only some very small signs of foxing against the frame at the top; this is perfectly acceptable, considering it’s a Victorian mirror. The suite boasts the original polish and patination (having been revived in our workshop) thus displaying a warm rich burr walnut colour. The suite is extremely well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use. The quality is reflected in the weight of bedroom suite; the individual items are heavy to lift!
