Description:
Here is an antique English Victorian extendable 14ft 10” solid oak dining / boardroom table, circa 1870, which seats up to 16 – 18 persons, having just been traditionally French polished, in excellent condition. The table features a solid oak top with a stunning golden oak colour, with a moulded edge, above a straight-line frieze. Even the table leaves feature the line frieze, which is a sign of quality. The table is raised on lovely carved scroll legs at each corner, and a turned supporting leg to the centre of the table. All five legs terminate on the original brass & mug castors. The table consists of two identical circular halves, which are connected via the original corkscrew winding mechanism. This mechanism can be used to wind the two halves completely together to create a circular table, which will seat four people. Alternatively the mechanism can wind the two ends apart to create a space into which centre leaves can be inserted, to create an elongated table; there are a total of four original interlocking leaves which, when all are fitted, create a table which is 14ft 10⅛” in length and will seat up to 16 – 18 people. The number of chairs will be dependent on the size (width) of chair. The original winding mechanism, which is stamped “Moor Brothers – Birmingham & London” is operated by use of a crank, which inserts into a hole at one end of the table and turns a central crankshaft that runs under the table top. The chairs in the picture are not included in the price.
The table boasts a stunning golden oak colour. It has fantastic colour and patination; this is due to the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This oak boardroom / dining table would look superb in a variety of rooms, including the living room, dining room or boardroom. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. This item would certainly grace any home, as it is a fantastic investment. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
