Description:
This is a very pretty antique Jacobean style solid oak geometric dresser base, circa 1880, which has been adapted from some earlier 17th century timbers, during the Victorian period, and is now in excellent condition. The Jacobean period stretched from 1603 to 1625 during the James 1st reign. It was common for the Victorians to “recycle” and adapt earlier 17th and 18th century furniture to suite their tastes and requirements at that time. The dresser boasts a lovely size, with great craftsmanship including a good quality doubled moulded twin plank solid oak top. The front of the dresser features classic geometric applied mouldings to the drawer fronts, flanked by further turned applied mouldings to the frame, along with moulded raised side panels and a moulded frieze. The two large working drawers, which are butt jointed, oak and pine lined, incorporate their original Victorian pear-drop solid brass drawer handles.
The dresser is raised on turned legs with block legs to the rear. The backboards, inset side panels and drawer linings are constructed of solid oak and pine.
This item features a rich brown oak colour. It has a fantastic original colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the dining room, living room or the hallway. The item would certainly grace any home or office and a great investment, as they are an extremely functional. So, don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This is a very pretty antique Jacobean style solid oak geometric dresser base, circa 1880, which has been adapted from some earlier 17th or 18th century timbers, during the late Victorian period, and is now in excellent condition. The Jacobean period stretched from 1603 to 1625 during the James 1st reign. It was common for the Victorians to “recycle” and adapt earlier 17th and 18th century furniture to suite their tastes and requirements at that time. Nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). Please remember, this item is over 150 years old. The drawers are in good working order and close flush to the frame. The drawers incorporate their original Victorian pear-drop solid brass handles. The dresser has been professionally French polished, by hand, in our workshop. The dresser therefore boasts a lovely rich colour and patination. This dresser is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
