Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian mahogany revolving office armchair by the renowned cabinetmaker, James Shoolbred & Co., circa 1880, in good working condition. The armchair features a curved scroll bar back, secured by down-swept arms, with an elegant pierced central back splat, flanked by two sets of spindles. The serpentine shaped seat has been newly upholstered in a top quality full grain dark green leather, which has been finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The underside of the seat has been re-webbed in the traditional manner. The chair sits on four splayed mahogany legs that terminate on the original mug castors. The chair incorporates a mechanism allowing it to rotate 360 degrees. The chair mechanism has been restored and serviced and is in good working order. The mechanism is not designed to recline or be height adjustable (as it’s an early office chair). It is however extremely comfortable to sit on as it features a lovely padded seat.
The armchair features a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
