Description:
Here is superb quality antique Victorian mahogany & marble coat, hat, stick & umbrella hall stand with mirror, circa 1870, in good original condition. The item boasts an arch shaped back with central intricate pierced fretwork carvings, including a pierced fretwork pediment. The back features a total of eight original brass-hanging hooks as well as the original arched top portrait mirror. Below, the stand boasts the original freestanding marble slab upon a table section. Please note the marble is excellent condition. The table section incorporates a single hand dovetailed, mahogany lined draw. The hallstand is flanked by its original turned bar rack, for supporting sticks and umbrellas, which can be slotted in from above, to rest with the tip inside the original tin drip trays, which are set into the base of the stand. The tin drip trays are designed to be removable in order to empty them of rainwater. The hallstand is raised on scroll end legs at the front and straight legs to the rear. A shaped base supports the legs.
This item features a rich red-brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in the hallway of any house or office. It would certainly grace and home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This Victorian hall stand is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and marble top, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The freestanding marble is original and there is no cracks or chips to it. The hallstand retains all its original brass hooks; all of which are intact and not broken. The mirror is original and therefore does have some minor foxing to the top to corners (please see photos). However, the overall condition of the mirror is good, considering its age. The hallstand retains its original tin drip trays. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination. This is a single piece hallstand. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
