Description:
Here is an exhibition quality Victorian Mahogany pedestal dressing table with a central long mirror, circa 1870, in excellent original condition. The dressing table boasts a full-length rectangular adjustable mirror with an arched top, encased in a moulded frame, featuring a central carved floral pediment to the top. Stunning floral pierced fretwork carved arms support the mirror frame. The angle of the mirror can be adjusted by turning the brass knobs, which have steel threaded screw ends that sit into the mirror frame. The mirror supports rest upon the pedestals, which feature two small drawers on either side. The small drawer compartments and the pedestals themselves both boast figured mahogany tops with moulded edges. The pedestals incorporate four working graduated, mahogany lined drawers. The drawers are constructed with hand-dovetailed joints and the drawer linings are are quarter beaded (a sign of quality). To the centre of the dressing table, below the mirror is a central show compartment with a curved hinged lid. The dressing table rests on the original moulded plinth. The item retains the original backboards to the base and mirror. The mirror and carved arm supports can be dismounted for easy storage and transportation
The dressing table features a rich red and brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
This dressing table would look superb in the bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This Victorian dressing table is in excellent original condition, having been French polished in our workshops. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no marks, stains or scratches to the tops of the pedestals. The mirror, which is the original mirror, is in generally good condition, but does show some signs of foxing; this is perfectly acceptable, considering it’s a Victorian mirror. The pedestal drawers close flush to the frame and they also retain their original carved wooden handles. There are some old use marks to the drawer bottoms (see photos). This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
