Description:
This is a fine quality antique late Victorian butlers’ tray on stand, constructed of solid oak, with a lovely mellow colour, circa 1870, in excellent original condition. This type of butlers’ tray was originally used both on grand tours and campaigns, but also in wealthy houses for serving drinks. It boasts a good quality front-loading tray with pierced shaped side carrying handles. The walls are constructed with lovely dovetail construction, which is a sign of quality, with lovely golden mellow colour & patination. The oak Butlers’ tray sits on a good quality block shaped oak-folding stand with, secured by three jute straps, which are in excellent condition. The tray and stand are original to each other. The tray has been wax-polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop. There are no ring / water marks on the tray top surface. The hinged bars to the stand are original.
This tray and table are a lovely example of a Butlers’ tray from the mid-Victorian period. The level of detail and craftsmanship displayed are of a high standard.
The oak Butlers’ tray boasts a golden mellow oak colour, with lovely grain figuration. It has good colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.

This is a fine quality antique late Victorian butlers’ tray on stand, constructed of solid oak, with a lovely mellow colour, circa 1870, in excellent original condition. There are nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top but nothing significant considering the age of the item and years of use. The oak Butlers’ tray has been wax-polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop. There are no ring / water marks on the tray top surface. The hinged oak bars to the stand are original and in good working condition. There are no splits to the top either. The wooden tray and stand are both sturdy. This oak butlers’ tray is solid in joint and ready to use.
