Here is a stunning quality antique Victorian oak revolving office armchair, circa 1870, in good condition. The chair features an elegant curved bar back, which is connected to the scroll with down swept arms. The chair seat has been newly upholstered with top quality full grain sage green leather, which has been finished with hand-tacked studs to the perimeter of the seat perimeter. The underside of the seat has been webbed in the traditional manner. The chair design is quite unique with the shaped back above a central pierced splat. The chair revolves 360 degrees (please note, these early office chairs were not designed to be height adjustable or tilt). The seat is connected to the top section of the revolving mechanism, where as the four sturdy cabriole legs, which stand on the original brown mug castors, are connected to the lower section of the mechanism. The chair is very comfortable to sit at and it has a fantastic colour and is in very good condition.
The chair features a rich mid brown oak colour. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
The chair and mechanism are in original working condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chair frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair frame has been cleaned and polished in our workshop. The chair has been newly upholstered in to top quality full grain sage green leather, which incorporates the traditional brass studwork tacks to the seat perimeter and traditional webbing to the underside. The revolving mechanism is in good working order, having been cleaned and serviced. There is some play to the mechanism, but this is perfectly acceptable, and in line with the age of the chair, and to be found in all office chairs of this age. The chair stands its original legs and features its original brass and brown mug castors (the castors are in good condition). This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
