Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian oak and brown leather office / library tub armchair, with generous proportions, circa 1890, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. The chair incorporates a curved, padded backrest, boasting scroll carved sides, secured to oak wraparound upholstered arms, all supported by a bank of turned spindles. The front of the arms also rests on turned supports. The chair is upholstered in a good quality tan brown with traditional horsehair filling, finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. Whilst it may not be the original leather upholstery, it is in good condition, with age related marks. The seat is firm but comfortable. The underside of the seat is covered with hessian in the traditional manner. This armchair sits on tapering turned legs to the front, which terminate on brass castors, and sabre legs to the rear.
The chair frame exhibits a rich brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This antique tub armchair would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
