Description:
Here is a stunning quality antique English Victorian rosewood three-seat couch, circa 1850, with a fantastic quality frame, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. The couch has been upholstered in top quality structured pale satin gold brocade upholstery, interspersed with a floral pattern, finished with a fine quality matching braiding to the frame. The couch is constructed of solid rosewood and boasts a stunning quality frame with a central carved floral fretwork pediment. A moulded sweeping frame, secured by upholstered arms terminates on finely carved scroll arms above shaped supports. The couch benefits from a sprung serpentine shaped seat; the seat is firm but comfortable; you do not sink into the seat. The underside is finished with traditional hessian backing. The frieze displays a finely carved floral central cartouche. The couch is raised on pronounced tapering block legs, decorated with trailing floral carvings at the front, with plain splayed legs to the rear. This is a strong and sturdy couch; which is noticeable by the weight of the item; it is extremely heavy to lift!
This couch features a stunning rich brown rosewood colour to the frame. As it boasts the original polish it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished.
This couch would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway to the living room. The couch would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
