Description:
Here is a good quality English watercolour print of four British soldiers of the First or Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards, circa 1925, in good condition. It is a hand painted print, also known as “hand tinted print”, whereby a print has been made on paper and then coloured in by hand with watercolour paints. The painting depicts four different kinds of soldier in different types of uniform, including a guardsman in fighting order, a field officer in drill order, a subaltern in marching order and a sergeant in drill order. The four soldiers are shown standing in a row, on a plain white background. Each of the soldiers is labelled accordingly towards the bottom of the picture, indicating that this was probably originally commissioned as an official painting. From left to right, the picture depicts the following military personnel:
Guardsman – Service Dress (Fighting Order)
Field Officer – Service Dress (Drill Order)
Subaltern – Service Dress (Marching Order)
Sergeant – Service Dress (Drill Order)
The painting displays a high level of clarity and attention to detail, with accurate colours and crisp lines. At the bottom right corner is the Artist’s initials ‘DM’ and the year ‘1925’, within a shield. The picture is mounted with a burgundy mat and a black vinyl frame.
This painting would look superb in a variety of rooms, including the hallway, living room or bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is an attractive and interesting piece, particularly for anyone with an interest in military history. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of art.
