Description:
This is a superb quality antique English Victorian double scroll end mahogany and leather couch, circa 1830, in excellent condition. At this time, England was importing the best quality mahogany from its colonies. The frame and bolster reeded legs are constructed of mahogany. The frame features attractive up-swept scroll end arms, which are decorated with scribe moulding to the arms. The couch features a curved top rail to the back, above a deep buttoned backrest, with the arms also being deep buttoned. Additionally, moulded cartouches can be seen at the top of the reeded legs. The couch stands on elegant ring turned reeded legs to the front, terminating on fine quality English-made replacement solid brass cup castors on all four legs. The couch seats 3 – 4 persons. The couch has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain brown leather. The leather frame is studded in traditional metal studs, in keeping with the original design. The couch features a newly webbed base, the original detachable animal hair swab cushion and two bolster cushions at each end. The mahogany frame has also been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard.
