Description:
This is a fine quality set of four English antique William IV solid mahogany dining chairs, circa 1835, decorated with floral needlepoint seats, in excellent overall condition. These sturdy chairs are designed with an attractive curved cresting bar back, each with a curved cresting rail above a shaped and pierced foliate carved mid-rail, secured by shaped, moulded vertical supports which are topped with further scroll carving. The seat frame is raised on turned reeded front legs, with sabre legs to the rear. The drop-in seats are decorated with floral needlepoint upholstery. The upholstery is of very good quality and condition. This set of chairs boasts the original polish; therefore, they have a fantastic depth of colour and patination, displaying a lovely rich red and brown colour.
We purchased the chairs with the existing upholstery shown in the photos. The seats have been professionally cleaned. However, as this is old fabric, there are minor signs of wear, but nothing significant considering its age – the chairs have obviously been well looked after. If you would like the seats professionally recovering in a fabric of your choice, we charge £30 labour per seat. We would ask you to supply the fabric. We can let you know how many metres of fabric are required, based on your fabric pattern repeat.
These William IV dining chairs would look good anywhere, either in a formal setting or for everyday use. They would certainly grace any home or office and are a great investment, as they are extremely functional.
