Description:
This is a fine quality antique set of six French oak kitchen chairs, in the Louis XV style, with carved oak rush seats and a ladder back design, of the 3rd Republic period, circa 1920 – 1930, in excellent original condition. Featuring a shaped top rail with a shell carved motif and two further shaped rails below, in the form of a ladder-back design within the shaped upright supports; the chairs feature “drop-in” rush seats, all of which are in good condition. The shaped seat frame incorporates a shell carved motif apron. The seats are raised on fine block legs, terminating on cabriole feet, to the front, with straight legs to the rear, all of which are united by elegantly turned stretchers at the sides and rear, plus a wavy front stretcher with a carved shell motif, for added strength and stability. The chairs are heavy in weight, which is a good sign of fine quality and it means they are sturdy.
The chairs feature a rich brown oak colour. They boast a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning they have received.
These chairs would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the kitchen or dining room. They would certainly grace any home in either a contemporary or traditional setting; they are a great investment, as they are an extremely functional item. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
