Description:
This is a fine quality Georgian Chippendale period flame mahogany chest on chest, with stunning colour, circa 1760, in good condition. The design of this chest is influenced by the Chippendale period, which was popular between the years of 1750 – 1790. The chest on chest boasts classic Chippendale detailing from the beaded dentil cornice fluted canted corners and the ogee bracket feet. The chest boasts a protruding moulded dental cornice, with decorative moulded beading, above a graduated nine-drawer configuration. The chest consists of two halves with an elegant moulding separating the midpoint. The top section is smaller than the bottom section, which consists of three graduated drawers below three small drawers. The top section is decorated with fluted canted corners. Stunning flame mahogany mirror matched veneers adorn the front of the chest and the drawers are finished with mahogany cock beading, which exhibits a touch of sophistication to this piece. The drawers are constructed with hand dovetail joints and are lined in oak. The drawer fronts feature later Victorian top quality brass swan neck handles. The lower section comprises of three graduated drawers, with a simple moulded apron to the underside terminating on the original ogee bracket feet. The chest retains its original backboards. The item is a two-piece chest; it dismantles into two two sections for easy transport and access into the house. This is an ideal item for the bedroom or landing as it provides significant storage space for clothes.
The chest boasts a rich red-brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

The chest on chest is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frame, sides and drawer bottoms, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The flame mahogany detail to the front of the chest is in excellent condition. The drawers feature later Victorian top quality brass swan neck handles. The drawers close flush to the frame and retain their original working locks (with key). The chest also stands on its original ogee bracket feet and incorporates its original backboards. This chest boasts its original polish, which ensures a fantastic colour to the flame mahogany. The chest is well constructed, solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready to be used.
