This is a good quality pair of period antique English Regency elm and oak country chairs, circa 1815, in good original condition. Having been constructed from solid elm and oak, they boast a stunning warm golden colour with a beautiful grain. The chairs feature an elm splayed backrest incorporating a bowed elm “bar back” top rail, with a decoratively shaped horizontal central elm splat flanked by two chamfered vertical elm rail, above solid oak seats, which feature simple mouldings. The chairs are raised on elegant square tapering elm front legs, with splayed rear elm legs, all of which are connected by four stretchers for additional strength. The chairs have been constructed in the traditional manner, incorporating a pegged mortise and tenon construction method.
The chairs feature a mellow golden brown colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
They would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway to the kitchen. The chairs would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
This pair of chairs is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, seat, frame and legs, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There has been evidence of historical woodworm to the chair frames and legs; however, it has been thoroughly treated. Please note, antique furniture of this age and in particular furniture constructed of elm was susceptible to traces of woodworm, as it was a softer timber. The chair retains it original polish and patination, which is why the chair a boasts a stunning warm colour. The chairs sit firm on the ground and do not wobble. They are solid in joint and ready to use.
