Description:
This is a large rustic colonial military teak campaign writing box, circa 1860, possibly used by the British Raj or military, in good original condition. Constructed of solid teak, the lid features an elegant thumb-moulded edge, which is echoed on the base. The box opens up to reveal a single compartment, with the original two large brass strap hinges holding the lid in place. The interior of the box is clean and boasts a lovely, distinct lavender oil aroma. The box also retains its original brass carrying handles and working lever lock (with working key). This item is a truly classic example from the Victorian period in colonial India. The box is well constructed and completely original. The box could be used to store jewellery, makeup, sewing materials or paperwork.
The box features a warm red brown teak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the office to the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it’s extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
