Description:
Here is an example of a fine quality antique Welsh Regency oak pot board dresser base, originating from South Wales, possibly Swansea, displaying a rich oxblood colour, circa 1810, in good condition. With narrow proportions (4ft 8” wide), the dresser incorporates a moulded oak top, with three working drawers above a straight frieze. The drawer fronts are decorated with fine moulded edges and feature old replacement brass swan neck handles and escutcheons. The drawers incorporate pine linings, constructed with hand dovetail joints. The central and right hand drawers retain their original locks, with a working key. The left hand drawer displays a dummy lock. The base is raised on four-baluster ring turned supports, decorated with classic Regency fan-shaped spandrels, united by a pot-board base below, where the planks run front to back.
The dresser has been constructed in the traditional method using the joined peg construction method.
The dresser features a superb rich mid brown oak colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received (it cannot be recreated by re-polishing).
The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
