This is a very unusual, rare and superb quality antique Edwardian colonial travelling mahogany sewing compendium, circa 1900, in excellent condition. Used in the British colonies, this table was designed for travelling but also to provide a good quality and high specification mobile sewing worktable. When closed the sewing table can be easily stored in a confined area. The outside of the box features pretty satinwood and ebony string inlay to both sides. The original working lock & key secures the table. To open the worktable there are 2 original brass spring ball locks to the underside of the table that need to press inwards to allow the table to fold open. When the table is sitting horizontally, the brass ball locks are fixed in position to stop the table collapsing inwards. The interior is lined with the original leather including several leather tool holders and miniature boxes. The table also boasts its original work tools, which is very rare to see. The outside of the sewing bag is upholstered in a top quality salmon pink brocade embroidered with a gold thread. The interior of the bag is lined in a pale gold silk material finished off with matching braiding. The table is supported by four pretty folding legs, which are connected by a cross-stretcher for added strength. This is a truly classic design from the late Edwardian period. All in all, this is a very pretty and superb quality-sewing table.
The table feature a mellow mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:
This rare sewing table is in excellent working condition. Importantly, the internal leather is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. There are no splits to the to the top, sides or frame of the table. The entire satinwood inlay is intact and in excellent condition. The folding leg mechanism is in excellent working order. The table stands firm on the ground it does not wobble, is solid in joint and is ready to use.
