Provenance
Thomas Willson of 68 Great Queen Street, London, was from a firm of family cabinetmakers, which were established in 1818. This family of cabinetmakers was renowned for their use of quality materials and exceptional craftsmanship. Not only did they produce furniture in their workshops, they also ran a furniture warehouse, furniture works and upholstery business at the same address through the latter half of the 19th Century.
This coffer is stamped ‘T. Willson, 68 Great Queen Street, London’ on the inside frame. Antique furniture marked with the makers name has always been desirable and is becoming rare and difficult to find. Furniture with cabinetmakers stamps is popular and most often than not, proves to be a good investment in the long term.
