Here is an example of a superb quality antique flame mahogany intricately inlaid Regency two-door linen press cupboard, circa 1800 – 1830. The linen press features two exquisite flame mahogany locking doors with moulded panels, which sit below a beautiful protruding detachable cornice. The front of this linen press is intricately inlaid with satinwood and ebony string and floral inlay to the door panels and drawer fronts. To the centre of each door panel sit a stunning inlaid oval flower. The doors feature a brass escutcheon, original working lock and a key. Below, the two over three oak lined graduated drawers in the base are hand dovetailed and cock beaded (another sign of good quality). The base also features the original brass swan neck handles and escutcheons. The press features a lovely shaped frieze to the base and the original bracket feet. Inside, the linen press has its original four mahogany detachable sliding linen trays. The linen press also features the original backboards. This is a sought after linen press due to its intricate inlaid detail to the front of the press. The linen press dismantles into three sections (canopy, top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase into the bedroom.
The linen press has a rich mahogany brown colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Finally, the linen press features two labels one referring to Harrods Ltd., Barnes (SW13) depository with possibly, the customers’ name which was “J.C. Darcy”. There is also another label referring to a Maples depository with possibly the customers’ name, which was Mrs. Meade. This gives us some indication of the possible retail provenance of this wonderful piece of furniture.
This item is an excellent investment but also very practical for storage and would look superb in a variety of rooms from the bedroom, dining room, hall way or the living room. This item base would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
