Here is an example of a superb quality French walnut open bookcase, circa 1880 – 1900, from the French 3rd Republic period. The bookcase features turned spindles and carved supports to the top shelf. Below, each of the four tiers of the bookcase is connected by very pretty turned fluted and tapered spindles, which have carved acanthus leaves at the base of each spindle. Each shelf is finished with a moulded edge. The bookcase sits on the original turned bun feet. The bookcase features the original polish and boasts a lovely colour. This is a good quality bookcase with attractive proportions and is completely original.
