Here is an example of a superb quality antique George III Welsh marches 6½ft oak three drawer dresser base (circa 1760). The top of this dresser is constructed from a single piece of oak and this is extremely rare to see this is a sign of very good quality. The dresser base consists of three working hand dovetailed drawers which feature brass escutcheons and brass swan neck handles. The cushion fronted drawers features a moulded edge design. The moulded edge design is repeated on the freize and apron. The dresser features the original working locks to the two outer drawers and what we believe to be the original key. The dresser frame is constructed using the traditional pegged construction method. The drawers are pine lined with the original backboards and the dresser sits on simple but elegant straight legs.
1The Welsh Marches is a term which denotes an imprecisely defined area along and around the border between England and Wales in the United Kingdom. The English terms Welsh March, The March of Wales, in were originally used in the Middle Ages to denote a more precisely defined territory, the marches between England and the Principality of Wales, in which Marcher lords had specific rights, held to some extent independently of the king of England.
