Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique English large Victorian gilt mirror, with a carved gilded frame, designed to hang above a fire place / mantlepiece, circa 1850, in good original condition. This is an exceptionally large mirror; the frame measures 6ft 1” high by 5ft 6” wide. The gilt frame is in good condition. Nominal old use marks, to the leading edges of the gilt frame, but nothing significant, given the age of the item. The large Victorian gilt mirror retains its original glass, with minor signs of “foxing” and some old use marks (please see photos) and we think it is perfectly acceptable given its age, and that fact that it is the original glass. “Foxing” is a term used to describe silvering in antique mirrors that has deteriorated and turned misty, or appears to have tarnished in areas. Light “foxing” serves to demonstrate the pleasing character and patina demonstrating its age. This large antique wall mirror is ready to be used.
