Description:
This is a fine quality large antique Anglo-Indian Victorian colonial teak and brass campaign chest / trunk, circa 1870, in excellent original condition. The chest features a teak outer frame, boasting brass banding to the front, sides and rear. The chest also features the original outer lock (with working key), which is in good working order, and features the original diamond shaped inlaid key escutcheon. The lid also retains its original hasps which further secure the lid, as well as the original ring hoops, which may have been used to attach to an external stay, mounted to a wall, when the lid was opened. The interior of the chest comprises a two-plank floor. The sides of the box are decorated with the original brass carrying handles. The chest is raised on a moulded plinth and rests on small bracket feet. It would make an ideal coffee table or ottoman at the foot of the bed.

This is a fine quality large antique Anglo-Indian Victorian colonial teak and brass campaign chest / trunk, circa 1870, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the exterior and leading edges of the box, including the interior but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chest has been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop. The chest therefore boasts a stunning colour and patination. There are no missing sections or brass work to the chest. The chest retains its original working lock, with working key. The original brass hinges are also in good working order. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
