This is a superb quality early oak Scottish Food cupboard dated with a fantastic patination, circa 1680 – 1700 believed to originate from Scotland or the border counties. The detachable top consists of a carved freeze and two floral carved pillars which surround two arched medieval style doors. There are two secret drawers hidden away in the top structure. The base has inset panels to its doors with complementary carving. The sides to top and bottom have matching inset panels. The whole stands on square style feet. Inside the top section there is a shelf which contains two secret drawers. Inside the bottom section, there is shelving. The doors have old replacement brass handles. The back boards are pine. This piece has been sympathetically restored and cleaned inside. This piece of furniture dismantles into two sections for easy transportation. All in all, this is a beautiful piece of antique furniture.
Provenance
We believe this item is probably from the Scottish or the border counties area. This cupboard may have been made for or donated as a wedding present to a couple. It would have been one of the owner’s most prized possessions in the house. It would have provided significant storage space.

Condition Report:
This item is in excellent condition and commensurate with the age. Free of active wood worm, solid in joint and ready to use. All doors close comfortably. The brass knobs are old replacements. Nominal old use marks but nothing significant considering the age of the item. This piece has been sympathetically restored and cleaned inside.
