Here is a very good quality antique Victorian mahogany and leather revolving office armchair, circa 1870, in excellent condition. This style of chair was also known as a “Captains chair”. The chair features an elegant deep-buttoned leather curved back, which is connected to the sweeping padded leather arms above a bank of ring turned spindles. The seat is sprung with horsehair filling which makes it extremely comfortable. The leather is finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter of the seat frame above a reeded frieze. The seat is connected to the base by four sturdy umbrella shaped legs, which terminate on brass mug castors. The chair revolves 360 degrees and does not recline chairs of this age were not designed to recline. The chair is extremely comfortable, has a fantastic colour and is in very good condition.
The chair features a rich deep mahogany colour. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This office chair is in excellent original condition. The arms, frame and seat are completely solid and show no signs of movement. The leather seat is in excellent condition and is free from any holes, damage or rips. The seat is fixed at a standard height and revolves 360 degrees. Chairs of this age were not designed to recline. Importantly, there are no breaks to the arms or legs. The chair sits on brass mug castors. This chair is solid in joint and ready to use.
