Here is a stunning quality pair of George III style mahogany dish top tripod tables, circa mid 20th century, in excellent condition. This pair of reproduction tables is taken from a design that was popular during the late 18th century. Dish top tripod tables were the most elegant designs of tripod tables during the George III period. The tops are constructed from a single piece of solid top quality mahogany, with a fine circular upturned ridge to the perimeter. The tables feature a brass hinge and locking mechanism to the underside allowing the tops to be fixed in place when horizontal. When open, they can be lifted 90 degrees upright, so that the tables can be stored away. The tables boast a well-shaped and very good quality turned pedestal stem, with a lovely twist section at the base. The tables terminate on lovely umbrella shaped legs with pad feet.
The tables are completely original (i.e. the top and the base are not a marriage) without any breaks or damage. They would make an ideal pair of lamp tables. It is rare to see a set of good quality tripod tables, even reproduction versions.
As these are an extremely good quality pair of reproduction tables made from top quality mahogany, it leads us to speculate that the world-renowned reproduction cabinetmakers, Gostins of Liverpool, probably made them. Gostins were renowned for making top quality reproduction furniture in Liverpool. One of their clients was the Royal Family for whom they commissioned work.
The tables feature a rich red mahogany colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received. This truly is a very beautiful pair of tables with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
The tables would look superb in a variety of rooms from the dining room, living room or the hallway. They would be ideal as a pair of lamp tables. The tables would certainly grace any home or office and are a great investment, as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
