Description:
This is a fine quality antique English William & Mary oak geometric moulded chest of drawers, circa 1690, with stunning colour and small proportions, in good condition. The chest boasts a two-plank primitive moulded top, above three drawers. The drawer fronts are decorated with mitred geometric moulded panels, flanked by a simple frame; all of which is typical of this period. Each drawer features a different design. The drawers incorporate old replacement brass drop ring handles, circular brass back plates and oval key escutcheons. The drawers feature working locks and there is a working key. The drawers are oak lined and are constructed with primitive hand dovetail joints. The chest features solid inset panel sides, along with the original backboards. The chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze and is raised on the original bracket feet. The frame of the chest has been built using the traditional peg construction method.
The chest features a dark rich brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
This William & Mary chest of drawers would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the hallway to the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

There are working locks to all three drawers (with a key). The chest stands on the original bracket feet. Chests of drawers of this age usually have replacement feet due to the period of time they have stood on damp floors. The sides and backboards on the chest are also original.
