This is a good quality mid-size rustic colonial military Teak writing box, circa 1880. The outer box lid is decorated with attractive brass inlay to the centre of the lid and corners. The box also features profuse brass straps to all sides of the box. The box lock is in good working order and there is a key, which inserts into an ornate brass escutcheon. The interesting interior boasts multiple compartments (both visible and hidden secret compartments). The lid features a small shaped mirror. Three compartments are covered with lids and a key in the base of the central main compartment can be turned and the base slid back, to unlock a secret storage area Much of the interior is constructed for easy removal. The box contains the original letter racks to each side of the mirror.
