Description:
This is a good quality vintage Ercol style English oak sideboard / cupboard by Priory, circa 1960, in excellent original condition. The sideboard features a raised plate rack with solid back, supported by shaped supports, above a simple moulded bow-fronted top. The plate rack can be detached if you want to use it just as a base. Below is a pair of oak lined drawers, which boast moulded fronts and curved wooden handles. The left-hand drawer is a cutlery drawer, being compartmentalised into three sections, retaining the original taupe colour lining. Further below is a two-door cupboard with a two-tier interior. The right-hand door displays the Priory badge. The sideboard rests on ball-shaped castors, allowing for easy manoeuvring of the item. This sideboard is well-constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
This sideboard boasts a mellow golden oak colour; this can only be achieved with age and the years of care and cleaning it has received. This is an extremely useful piece of furniture and a great asset to have in any dining room, hallway or living room.
This item would certainly grace any home, so don’t miss out on your chance to own such a lovely antique item.
Priory:
Priory Furniture Ltd was founded originally as Bennett Woodworking on 1st June 1945, by David Provan, a man who had been involved in the design of the De Havilland Mosquito during WWII. Initially based on Erskine Street in Hulme, Manchester, the company produced period and retro style furniture. They also had a second factory on City Road, making boats. In the late 1970s, Priory relocated to Saxon Mill on Medlock Street in Droylsden, where they continued to produce furniture until the company went into liquidation in 1991.
